Komodo education, clean water and sustainable livelihood initiatives
Komodo is world-famous and one of Indonesia’s most popular tourist spots, known for the Komodo dragons and rich underwater wonders. Yet, the local island communities struggle with access to necessities such as education, clean water and alternative livelihoods for fishing and hunting critical marine life such as sharks and important fish for the ecosystem health.
Our local partner in Komodo is the Yellow Boat of Hope. It is a locally based NGO that has pioneered a unique approach in Indonesia by operating a school boat for the children on Rinca Island so that they can safely attend school. Beyond education, their Water of Hope project ensures that schools and communities have access to clean drinking water, reducing health risks and improving overall well-being. They also provide scholarships, school supplies, and infrastructure improvements to enhance the learning experience.

By collaborating with Yellow Boat of Hope, we are partnering with local leaders, schools, and organisations. This ensures that the donations made through Ocean Eye are creating lasting solutions that align with the community’s needs. Your donations will support this program and help Yellow Boat of Hope Indonesia expand its activities in the Komodo National Park area to support more children and communities.
Through the education initiatives of Yellow Boat of Hope, the critical sightings and payment data for wildlife will be distributed to communities. This ensures the communities are educated about the value of marine life alive through the sightings and donations of data from Ocean Eye.
